Pro Circuit Post-Race: Houston
CORONA, Calif., – Nearly 50,000 fans were on hand inside Houston’s Reliant Stadium on Saturday, for another action-packed round of Monster Energy Supercross. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle earned his fourth top-10 finish in-a-row in the Supercross Class, while teammate Blake Baggett got back to work in the Supercross Lites East Region and returned on the podium after a few rough weeks laden with misfortune. Darryn Durham had a tough time at Reliant Stadium, and spent the majority of the night fighting for points.
Baggett came out swinging in Houston. He posted the fastest practice times of the night in the Supercross Lites East Region, and possessed a noticeably different confidence in his riding as the night progressed. He has suffered from a self-professed frustrating season thus far, but seemed to turn things around in Houston. His newfound confidence earned him a solid third in the Supercross Lites East Main Event.
Tickle’s recent consistency stayed true in Houston. He ended the night with a career-best seventh-place effort and his fourth straight top-10 finish in the premier Supercross Class.
Durham had one of those nights a racer would rather forget, faced with multiple incidents that challenged his hopes of grabbing his first win in the Supercross Lites East Region. A first-turn pileup in his heat race forced Durham to earn a spot in the main event via the LCQ, while an additional first-turn melee in the main event switched his focus from trying to win the race, to merely salvaging valuable points. Durham put on an extremely impressive charge as he navigated his way from the very back of the pack, into the top-10. However, his progression was brought to a halt following a crash in the whoops, ultimately finishing the night in 17th place. Durham now has two weeks to reflect on the night during the Easter break from competition, before returning for the eighth round of the season on April 14th in New Orleans.
