L&H Tour to Honor Kent Howerton at Houston

Manlius, NY: Legendary Team Suzuki champion, Kent Howerton, will be honored at the 12th round of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross seriesat The Houston Astrodome this Saturday.
Kent Howerton was one of the most versatile motocross racers of the 1970’s and early 1980’s. The Texan, nicknamed the "Rhinestone Cowboy", won three AMA National Motocross Championships and two Trans-USA titles during his career. He is best known for his time as a Suzuki Factory Racer, but he also rode for Husqvarna and Kawasaki during the 15-years he competed as a professional motocross racer.
“In all, the “Rhinestone Cowboy” won 32 career AMA Nationals and when he retired in the mid-1980’s, he was second on the all-time AMA 250cc Motocross win list. In addition, Howerton was the 1980 AMA Pro Athlete of the Year; a two-time winner of the 250cc United States Grand Prix; a two-time member of the American Motocross des Nations team and twice winner of the groundbreaking ABC Wide World of Sports Superbikers competition” state Alex Moroz and Mike Owens Managing Partners of the Legends & Heroes Tour.
Tom White of the Early Years of Motocross Museum adds, “Kent was the ultimate motorcycle racer! Not a pin it and win it guy.........but, a rider that studied what it would take to be the best motocross racer or more! He was much smarter than most of his competition and was able to plan his approach to racing! Physical conditioning - he progressed to were a 45 minute moto with a best lap time at the end was possible! He understood the motorcycle and could communicate what he felt to the engineers and mechanics to improve the tool! He refined the art of racing a motorcycle! Very nice to see the Legends & Heroes Tour acknowledge one of the best of all time”.
Mr. Howerton will be at the Legends & Heroes Tour Moto Museum exhibition from 3pm to 4pm Saturday, March 31, 2012. The Champ will be presented the Legends & Heroes award
on the Monster stage at 6pm.
