  • Paul Whibley Takes Third at GA GNCC - GNCC Racing

Whibley PR

Race Report: GNCC Round 2 Georgia
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: AmPro Yamaha
Bike: Yamaha YZ450 F
Result: 3rd

Another great start, nabbing the hole shot for the second time in as many races and leading
the early going. The mud holes at this track always give the leader board a good shake up and
the same was true over the first few laps this year with five or more riders taking their turn up
front. Once the fastest way through or around the mud holes are established the lead changes
less often. Myself and the KTM duo of Charlie Mullins and Kailub Russell settled in as the lead
group but everyone else was not too far back. Charlie and I were left at the front when Kailub
collided with a lapped rider mid race.

After the gas stop Kailub clawed his way back up near the front and with two laps to go
dropped the hammer and took the lead. I was behind Charlie in third and could see Kailub
starting to go. I couldn’t get past to give chase and if I did I’m not sure I would have had
anything for Kailub who was riding extremely well.

Over the last lap I searched for a way around Charlie but couldn’t make it happen. I kept
getting forced into bad lines as I tried to make my way around some traffic and then in one of
the last mud holes I tried an outside line in an attempt to put a move on Charlie. It didn’t go sowell, going down and losing any chance of taking second.

Both Charlie and Kailub rode great races and I have to be happy with third this time. We still
have the points lead going into the third round at Steel Creek North Carolina in two weeks.
