MotoSport.com/TiLUBE/Foremost Insurance SX Round 11 Race Report
March 20, 2012, 1:10pm
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (March 19, 2012) – It was a big day in the streets of downtown Indianapolis. Not only was it St. Patrick’s Day but it was also the 11th round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, held inside Lucas Oil Stadium. MotoSport.com/TiLUBE/Foremost Insurance riders were excited to race in front of their friends and family as it would be the closest race to both of there home towns.
Nick Wey and Justin Sipes both qualified well during the afternoon sessions, securing 17th and 24th postion, respectivly.
Sipes would be the first of the two teammates to line up for the heat races. With a great jump on the start and some good moves on lap one, Sipes found himself in fourth. Seven more smooth and steady laps and Sipes qualified directly into the main event with a solid third place finish. Wey lined up for heat race two looking to replicate the strong ride by his teammate. Also with a great jump, Wey found himself rounding the first turn in fourth. Nearing the end of the first lap a rider began pressuring Wey for the position. Shortly after, Wey was forced to make a last-second change to his line selection to avoid a collision with another rider, and in doing so, landed on the side of a tuff block. The result was a spectacular crash that prematurely ended his night. Fortunately, Wey was able to walk off the track under his own power.
As Sipes lined up for the evening’s main event, he set the goal of improving on his previous 15th place main event finish. The MotoSport.com/TiLUBE/Foremost Insurance rider was excited to be racing in front of his hometown fans and wanted to show everyone how much he had improved throughout the season. Sipes went into the first turn ready to bang bars and get the best start possible. By the end of lap one, Sipes was in 18th and had his work cut out for him. Not willing to settle, he began to charge forward, making several valuable passes. By the halfway mark Sipes was up to 12th and still on the move. He worked his way past another rider to claim 11th but ultimately ended up in the 12th position.
“This was my best race of the year,” said Sipes following the race. “It was great, this was my hometown race and to be able to do it in front of friends and family made it even better.”
“I had to make a move to avoid getting hit by another rider but still ended up going down hard,” said Wey. “I am very sore and going to get checked out by my doctors this week. At this point my condition is day-to-day so we’ll see what the doctors have to say.’
Next week the series travels to the Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the 12th round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Be sure to stop by the MotoSport.com/TiLUBE/Foremost Insurance Team truck to show your support and to have your picture taken with Nick Wey, Chris Blose, and Justin Sipes from 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm.
