DNA Energy Drink / JWR Daytona Report
Under heavy rain soaked conditions at Daytona International Speedway Saturday night for round 10 of the 2012 AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship season, Kyle Chisholm made the best of the track conditions that were dealt and finished 12 th in the SX Main for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team. Due to the weather circumstances race officials were forced to shorten the regularly scheduled 20-lap SX Main by four laps leaving the riders 16 laps to get it done in the mud and wet sand.
Leading up to the SX Main, Chisholm and the other top seeded riders in SX Group A happened to be the only group in the 450 class to get lucky enough to get in their free practice before the weather began to wreak havoc at the World Center of Racing. With the heavy rainfall race officials were forced to revise the afternoon schedule leaving all riders with only one timed qualifying practice session for the day.
Chisholm would finish his SX Group A final qualifying practice ninth fastest with a lap time of 1:27.928 which put him in SX Heat 2 with the fifth gate pick. In his Heat race, Chisholm got off to a good start and was running fifth in the early stages. But as the Heat wore on and track conditions worsened he would fall back three spots in the closing laps where he would hang on to finish eighth solidifying the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team’s only entry of the evening in the SX Main. Chisholm’s 12 th place finish in the SX Main moves him up one spot to 11 th in series points with 91, twenty-two points outside of the top-10.
Up next for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team is Indianapolis for round 11 on Saturday, March 17th. Chisholm will be rejoined by his teammate Josh Grant who will be making his highly anticipated return in Indianapolis after sitting out the last seven rounds due to a shoulder injury sustained during round three at Dodger Stadium back in January.
