Ask Us Anything: Why was Tyler Bowers #911?
March 5, 2012, 3:55pm
A Racer X Online reader sent us a note over the weekend concerning two-time AMA Arenacross Champion, who joined the Monster Energy AMA Supercross tour this past weekend in St. Louis:
I noticed Tyler Bowers was running his standard #911 number this weekend, but looking at the 2012 earned numbers he should have been running #74. I was under the impression that NO riders were allowed to run any number but their earned numbers. Do you know why he was able to run 911? I remember this being a big deal to some riders who wanted to keep their 3-digit numbers that weren't "career" numbers.
Good catch! We checked with a race official and he gave us a simple, honest answer: "The AMA made a mistake and moving forward Tyler Bowers will be required to wear #74." Bowers rode well in St. Louis, but a crash in the Lites main left him headed back to the pits early.
