  • Two in a Row for Tomac and Pro Taper
Corona, CA – Round four of the seventeen race 2012 Monster Energy Supercross series invaded O.co Coliseum in Oakland, CA on Saturday night. In front of a stellar crowd, team Geico Honda/Pro Taper Lites class rider Eli Tomac became the first repeat winner of the year.

Fresh off of a dominating win in Los Angeles, the new West Coast Lites Championship points leader had no plans of surrendering the red number plate backgrounds in Oakland. In the afternoon qualifying sessions Tomac notched a solid top three spot, garnering him a good gate pick for the evening’s heat races. Star Valli Rockstar Yamaha riders Ryan Sipes and Nico Izzi also set themselves up well by putting their Pro Taper equipped Lites bikes inside the top ten on the qualifying charts. Not to be outdone by the youngsters, premier class Pro Taper riders Kevin Windham (Geico Honda), Brett Metcalfe (Yoshimura Suzuki) and Kyle Chisholm (Jeff Ward Racing) all logged top ten qualifying times on their 450cc bikes.

In the Lites main event Tomac jumped out to a third place start, but was able to work his way into the lead by the completion of lap three. JDR Motorsports KTM rider Matt Moss got off to his best start of the season and proved that he has the speed to run inside the top five here in America. When the checkered flag finally flew, Tomac had put a 12 plus second interval on the field and tacked on another 14 points to his growing championship lead. Ryan Sipes was able to work his way up to a solid fourth place after starting outside the top ten. Moss held on to his top five position and Izzi turned in a very impressive ride, coming from 18th on lap one to a respectable seventh place.

The series now heads back south to Anaheim, CA this Saturday, February 4th. Be sure to tune in to Pro Taper’s social media sites for updates throughout the day at all of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross races.
