Washougal Highlight Show on FUEL Tonight
July 28, 2011, 6:05pm
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - American Motocross' annual visit to the Pacific Northwest was a memorable one, as the world's best riders continued their ongoing battle for the coveted title. The eighth round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship featured close competition amongst the sport's rising stars, and tonight, fans can relive all the action on FUEL TV, with a one-hour highlight show, airing at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.
Following a spectacular crash at the previous round from Spring Creek, TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing's Chad Reed looked to maintain his diminished points lead. However, the hard-charging duo of Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto were eager to build on the momentum they had gained one week prior, and both riders stepped up their efforts at Washougal. In the end, a head-to-head showcase between Dungey and Villopoto fell in Dungey's favor, resulting in his third win of the season. More significantly, Villopoto's strong effort vaulted him past Reed in the standings, with Dungey in tow.
In the 250 Class, the collectively-dominant effort by the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki trio of Dean Wilson, Tyla Rattray, and Blake Baggett continued. As the only three riders in the class to secure a moto win, all three riders battled for the overall, with the final classifications coming down to the final lap of competition. Ultimately, Baggett overcame his teammate's challenges to claim his series-leading fifth victory, bringing the three riders even closer together in the championship standings.
The tremendous battles from the scenic setting of Washougal Motocross Park will be broken down and analyzed, moto-by-moto. FUEL TV will also set the stage for Round 9 of the championship, scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 13, with the Rockstar Energy Unadilla National in New Berlin, N.Y.
