MXHeaven Race Report: Thunder Valley
At the fifth AMA National motocross of 2011 at Thunder Valley in Lakewood, CO. new challenges were thrown at the two Swedish riders. Fredrik Noren had raced there last year as a member of the Swedish MX of Nations Team and knew what to expect from the altitude, but Calle Aspegren raced there for the first time. Both had good speed in practice and qualified 18th and 28th respectively. So far so good, but during the first race the difficulties started.
To avoid collision with another rider, Calle was forced into an unfamiliar line, which pitched him over the bars and an end-over-end crash, resulting in an injured shoulder. He was unable to finish the moto and had no choice but to sit out the 2nd moto as well.
Fredrik started strong in 16th place but was slowed mid race with a sticky rear brake and ended up just outside the points in 21st place.
In the 2nd Moto he made up for it and worked his way up from 30th to 16th.
But he had not conserved enough energy for the last few laps, the high altitude got to him and he finished 18th , still a respectable result earning him 3 valuable points.
Fredrik is now in 22nd place overall after 5 races, a position he feels he can improve on in the races to come.
