  • Dungey and Durham Shine for Pro Taper
Corona, CA – Round five of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship went off Saturday in front of a huge crowd at Thunder Valley Raceway. The Lakewood, CO stop marked season best overall finishes for Pro Taper supported riders Ryan Dungey and Darryn Durham.

Outside of a heartbreaking mechanical failure in Texas, defending series champion Ryan Dungey has been on the podium every moto this season. This weekend, however, marked his first overall victory in the 2011 Motocross Championship. Dungey has been knocking on the door on a weekly basis and was relieved to get the first one out of the way. "It means a lot to get this win,” said Dungey. “We’re five rounds in and I wish it could have come earlier, but that’s racing. I have to give it up for Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki; we’ve all been working our butts off.” Ryan now sits third place in the points standings, 21 back from the lead.

Team Eleven10 Mods Honda privateer Darryn Durham has been one of the most talked about riders of the season. The Pennsylvania native has been consistently running up front in a very competitive 250cc class and is quickly gaining fans along the way. This weekend Durham was able to string two solid motos together and capture a very respectable fourth place overall finish. Darryn sits a solid top ten in the points standings, despite being at a significant resource disadvantage on privateer equipment.

Round six moves northeast to RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan this Saturday, July 2nd. Be sure to tune in to @ProTaper on Twitter for updates throughout the day at all of this season’s outdoor nationals.
