Steve Ramon enjoyed a superb weekend’s racing as he took overall victory at Round 4 of the Belgian Championship held in Tongeren yesterday.
With team mate Desalle out injured it was up to Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 racer Steve Ramon to fly the flag, and as the gate dropped for moto 1 the multiple Belgian Champ rocketed to a superb hole-shot. Once out front Ramon was un-stoppable as he stretched out a 12 second lead on the field, taking the win.
Moto 2 was a little tougher for Ramon, who initially trailed Strijbos. A mistake on lap 3 dropped Ramon down to 5th, but fighting straight back the number 11 was soon back into second spot, chasing down the leader, DeDycker. At the chequered flag it was DeDycker that edged out Ramon by just over 1 second, but by this point the pair were almost 40 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack.
Moto 3 would see another good start for Ramon, who this time rounded lap 1 in second position, closely behind Shaun Simpson. On lap two the super smooth Ramon moved into the lead and powered his Suzuki to race victory, and in turn winning the overall.
Steve Ramon: "The groin is getting better and today it was OK; no pain or complaints and I made no mistakes with my riding," he said. "The rain was pretty good for the dirt and the track was technical with short-bumps and an 'old school' layout. I was feeling good and confident and it showed in the motos."
Steve Ramon will now prepare for Round 8 of the MX1 World Championship, which is scheduled to take place in Uddevalla, Sweden this coming weekend.
