Weimer Wins Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jake Weimer became the first 450 Class rider to claim the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award in 2011, following an impressive second moto at High Point Raceway this weekend.

The third round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship was greeted with a short, yet powerful rain storm just prior to the start of the final 450 Class moto. As a result, the riders were greeted with a slick, muddy track that would surely test each of their abilities. Out of the gates, Weimer experienced misfortune and crossed the line 36th on the opening lap.

Despite the roost of mud and a consistent battle to maintain clear vision in such challenging conditions, Weimer refused to give up and continued to push throughout all 14 laps of the moto. The end result of Weimer's determination was an 11th-place finish to go along with his seventh-place effort in Moto 1, landing him ninth overall.

While his results may not be an indicator of the quality of his riding at High Point, Weimer's performance last Saturday is arguably one of his best during his young rookie campaign in the 450 Class. For his efforts, Weimer has received the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award, representing the tireless resolve that the accolade's namesake carried into each race he entered.

Weimer will be presented with the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award at this Saturday's pre-race riders meeting prior to the MotoTees Budds Creek National, providing well-deserved recognition for his efforts in front of his peers.
