The Grand Prix of France will have a special meaning for the sport when Road 2 Recovery (a group of former racers trying to make things better for our injured riders) will be invited by Youthstream to visit the event and run a special auction.
Already most of the riders in the paddock have come forward and are willing to be involved to raise money for riders who end their careers with serious injury.
FOX and Ken Roczen have come forward and will hand over some riding gear, as will the Monster Energy riders, THOR riders, Red Bull Teka KTM Factory riders, Honda Factory riders, and so many more will all give their riding gear away to be sold in the auction.
Former World 125cc Motocross Champion James Dobb is part of the organization and along with several other former World Motocross Champions, he is working hard to make Road 2 Recovery’s introduction into Europe a good one.
James Dobb.
“Road 2 Recovery is a charity for the industry, and it is to help racers who have career ending injuries. It is 100% for the riders. For MX1, MX2 and MX3, we are now working on building it up in Europe.”
Road 2 Recovery was started by two former Grand Prix racers, one a World Champion and the other a rider who suffered serious spinal damage, which eventually ended his career.
“Bob Moore and Jimmy Button started it a number of years ago,” Dobb said. “It started in America and obviously what happened to Jimmy when he got injured was that he wanted to get involved and help. I don’t know if you know what he was doing recently. He was riding across America and raising funds for Road 2 Recovery. He is trying to raise a million dollars for spinal damage resource, and stem cell resource.”
With Road 2 Recovery coming to Europe it means any riders seriously injured in the World Motocross Championship will receive help from the American based organization.
“We are looking to help any rider in any of the three classes (MX1, MX2 and MX3), and riders who end their careers due to injury. It’s a great thing and people should get involved to help out.”
Of course it all starts in a few weeks at the St Jean d’Angly circuit in France and it is important that the spectators at this event get involved and help this great cause.
“We will do charity events, “Dobb said. “Starting with the Grand Prix of France where we will have an auction with many of the Grand Prix and AMA riders giving away gear. A lot of the industry have come in and become involved. We have Stefan Everts involved, Roger De Coster is also helping out, Roger Harvey from Honda Europe is involved and so many more. “
For those attending the Grand Prix of France please be ready for this amazing auction, an auction that will begin a very worthy charity for our riders.
There will be more news on the French GP Charity as the event comes closer.
