The 4Oth season of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross championship will see a new face in the form of South African racer Gareth Swanepoel. The 26-year-old from Johannesburg will line up in Sacramento this weekend aboard his DNA Shredstix Yamaha for the first of the 12 round series.
“I’m really looking forward to Hangtown” smiled an optimistic Swanepoel. “I have ben testing and training Motocross for a while now and my speed seems to be pretty good. Our bikes are unbelievable and I know that I will have the equipment to get good results. The first round will be interesting to see where everyone is at with their speed and fitness. Most of the guys are coming off the Supercross season, which I unfortunately missed, but I see that as a positive point for me. I have had more time to focus on MX and base my fitness program on the longer motos so that should be my strong point. “
Swanepoel was injured at his first ever SX debut back in Februray when he was hit by another rider, compressing his T12 vertabra and fracturing numerous process bones. “The injury sounded quite bad but I managed to recover quite well and am back to full fitness. The Team and I decided not to finish off the SX season but instead concentrate on our MX testing so we should be good to go when the gate drops on Saturday. I’ve raced a few one off outdoors before when I raced GP’s in Europe so I pretty much know what to expect. The Lites class is stacked with fast guys and some talented riders so I hope to be mixing it up with them in Hangtown.”
