Monster Energy USGP - San Bernardino, CA- The Monster Energy US Grand Prix took place this past weekend at Glen Helen Raceway, in the mountains above San Bernardino, CA. Despite the rain and cold conditions, Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda riders Christian Craig and Travis Baker were committed to carry the TLD flag and represent the USA.
Falling between the conclusion of the Monster Energy Supercross Series and the start of the Lucas Oil Outdoor Nationals, the USGP was a great opportunity for the riders to get prepared for the upcoming outdoor season. Piloting the CRF450R in the MX1 class as he will for the nationals, was Christian Craig, who made his return to racing following a knee injury sustained at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Christian looked comfortable aboard the 450, and despite a tough time in qualifying, he put in two solid motos and showed some great effort.
Christian scored an eighth place finish in Moto 1, his best finish of the weekend. In Moto 2, Christian was working his way forward through the pack, but tangled with a defensive rider. He managed to fight back to finish 13th, for tenth place overall.
In the MX2 class, Travis Baker scored a tenth place finish in the first moto. Travis had put himself in a good position in the second moto when he was battling in the top five until he got a flat tire. A quick pit stop caused him to drop back deep in the pack but he eventually fought back up to 16th. He went on to finish the weekend with a 12th place overall.
"The guys looked really good this weekend," said team manager Tyler Keefe. "We've been doing a ton of outdoor testing prior to this weekend, so it was good to see where we are in actual race conditions. Christian looked great on the 450 and Travis had a really good moto going before the flat tire. We'll regroup this week and be ready for Hangtown."
