Grand Prix of Spain Canceled
According to reports in Spanish newspapers and on European MX websites, the Spanish Grand Prix, set for June 19 at the Montperier circuit in Bellpuig, has been canceled due to the poor economy in that country.
"The economic crisis has forced to cancel the Catalan Grand Prix of Motocross, 2011 and 2012," read a report in The Country newspaper in Spain. "This year's edition was scheduled for June 19 in the circuit Montperler (Lleida), and its cancellation have heavy budgetary constraints and the sensitive time of the Catalan economy, has informed the consortium in a statement. The consortium is now beginning a new line of work with new challenges led to the formation and empowerment of grassroots sport in the motocross and other specialties of the mountain bike."
No word on whether the race will be rescheduled or another event will be added in its place. The 2011 FIM World Motocross Championships begin Sevlievo, Bulgaria, on April 10. For more information on the series, check out Youthstream's official website: www.motocrossmx1.com
