Team San Manuel's James Stewart Takes Second In LA
January 24, 2011, 2:15pm
Los Angeles, CA - San Manuel Yamaha Red Bull’s James Stewart made the podium again Saturday night at the first ever Los Angeles Dodger Stadium race, earning second place in Round 3 of the AMA Supercross Series. The day started out strong for Stewart, posting the fastest lap times in practice for the third straight week. Although he had a strong start off the gate in Heat 2, his speed had him pushing wide and off the track in the first turn. Finding himself in last place, Stewart quickly regained composure and speed, working his way through the field to finish fourth and qualify for the Main event. A strong start in the Main had Stewart holding the lead until he lost traction in a turn on Lap 11 and dropped to fourth position. He quickly remounted and made a hard charge to regain position, getting within a second of the leader by the final lap for a 2nd Place finish. “I made a few mistakes out there and lost the front end, but I will recover. I’m feeling strong and hope to get a win next race,” Stewart said.
Stewart’s Teammate Kyle Regal had an impressive day as well. A strong start in Heat 2 had Regal running in third place for most of the Qualifier, where he finished a solid fifth. During the Main, Regal had his own challenges to overcome where a tough start had him in fifteenth place at the beginning. Regal worked his way up to 12th, when a crash late in the race had him dropping back for a 16th place finish. Regal said “I’m disappointed in my performance tonight, but I’ll be back next week and hope to improve.”
Stewart currently holds second place in the series with 67 points, just five shy of the lead. Kyle Regal is currently in 12th place with 24 points.
