Irvine, CA – The American Freestyle Motocross Association (AFMXA) will recognize this year’s top FMX athletes on Saturday, December 4th, hosting the second-annual AFMXA Nationals at Pala Raceway and AFMXA Ramp Awards at Pala Casino Spa & Resort in Pala, Calif.
With the collaboration of former X Games gold medalist Chuck Carothers and Clint Espisito from FMX East, the AFMXA has hosted Amateur Series events around the country during 2010, including stops in Texas, Illinois and California. Winners from each of the three classes have been invited to attend the Nationals at Pala, including Lance Coury, Garret Ahlf, Destin Cantrell, and others from all regions of the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Riders will be competing for gold, silver and bronze prizes within the Novice, Amateur and Pro-Am event classes on the AFMXA’s newly designed training facility at Pala Raceway.
The AFMXA Nationals will be open to the public for spectators to see some of the best FMX talent, free of charge. The Nationals will kick off with the Novice Class competition at 10:00am, followed by Amateur and Pro-Am classes throughout the morning and early afternoon. After the conclusion of the Pro-Am Finals, fans will be entertained by a pro jump demo at 3:00 to conclude the day’s activities.
Along with activity on the dirt, the AFMXA Nationals will feature AFMXA registration booths, where fans can learn more about the organization, including safety services and upcoming clinics/series information.
"This will be an exciting day for the AFMXA, our riders and freestyle motocross fans," said Leah Steiger, Executive Director, AFMXA. "The AFMXA exists to support this tight-knit community and help the sport thrive for everyone involved. Both events are great opportunities to celebrate the best of the sport, from young, up-and-coming riders to the established pros."
Following the AFMXA Nationals during the day, the action will move to the Grand Cabaret Lounge at Pala Casino Spa & Resort for the second-annual AFMXA Ramp Awards. The evening will include some of the biggest names in the sport, including Brian Deegan, Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg, Todd Potter, Mike Metzger and Nate Adams, along with music and film personalities such as acclaimed actor Danny Trejo and Ron Young from glam rock band, Little Caesar. Hosted by TV/radio star Riki Rachtman and off-road legend/ESPN commentator Cameron Steele, the 2010 AFMXA Ramp Awards will include categories such as Biggest Slam, Mucho Cahones and Lusk Legacy Rider of the Year. A Fan Favorite category will be voted by fans online at www.transworldmotocross.com.
After the Awards ceremony, Jay Schwietzer’s much-anticipated film, "On the Pipe 6," will make its debut for the invite-only crowd, followed by an 80’s hair metal-themed after party, hosted by ARF.
"We wanted to be part of an event that would benefit amateur freestyle moto riders from across the country, and give them the opportunity to compete at this high-profile event in Southern California," said Pala Chairman Robert Smith. "It will be a great thrill to see the AFMXA Amateur Series finish at our Pala facility and showcase some of the best new talent in the sport."
FUEL TV will be taping the 2010 AFMXA Ramp Awards for an exclusive broadcast that will air on February 2011 (dates/times TBD). The network will also feature excerpts from the AFMXA Nationals during upcoming FMX programming.
