  • Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Montreal SX Race Report

Kamloops, British Columbia - The longest running indoor race in Canada, the Monster Energy Montreal Supermotocross took place this past weekend at Montreal, Quebec's Olympic Stadium and the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki team looked to make an assault on both the MX1 and MX2 classes aboard their C4MX tuned Kawasaki motorcycles with riders Teddy Maier, Spencer Knowles and Brock Hoyer. Also slated to ride for the team in the MX1 class was Ohio's Shawn Rife but unfortunately the rookie who won three rounds of the CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals for the team this past season was injured in a practice crash only days before the event and was forced to withdraw.

Practice went well for the riders as they all easily adapted to the Jean Sebastien Roy designed track. Teddy Maier consistently logged some of the top times in the MX1 field, while in MX2 both Spencer Knowles and Brock Hoyer logged top 10 times in all three practice sessions. With no qualifiers for the MX2 field, Hoyer and Knowles got to relax and prepare for their main event later in the evening. In MX1 qualifying, Maier would battle it out in a stacked Heat race that featured former Montreal winners, Nick Wey, Jason Thomas and Dusty Klatt with Maier finishing 4th in the heat behind the aforementioned Wey and Thomas plus Arenacross legend Josh Demuth in 3rd.

The start of the MX2 main event saw Knowles grab one of his patented holeshots on his KX250F and even though he would slip back to eighth by the checkered flag it was a solid result for the up and coming British Columbia native. Meanwhile, fellow British Columbian Hoyer was putting his head down and battled to a fourth place finish, matching his finish from a year ago and narrowly missing out on the podium for a second straight year.

With the rest of the schedule wrapped up it was time to cap off the night with the premiere MX1 class main event and the field blasted off with 50,000 screaming fans ready to see their hero's do battle. Maier found his rhythm early on and started picking riders off as he made his way towards the front. He soon found himself in a solid four rider battle for the lead between himself, Jason Thomas, Nick Wey and Josh Demuth. With all four riders pushing hard it was clear that they all wanted the victory bad. Maier would work his way up to second behind Wey and that is how they finished as the checkered flag flew. With Demuth going down on the last lap, teammate Troy Adams would take third and ensure an all Kawasaki podium at the Olympic Stadium.

Now with the Montreal Supercross wrapped up the team shifts its focus to the upcoming Nex-Trax Canadian Arenacross Championships that kick off on November 5th at Chilliwack, British Columbia's Heritage Park Center. For more info on the Canadian Arenacross series, visit www.arenacross.ca

The team would also like to give a big thanks to Équipmente Les Chutes Kawasaki of Shawingan, Quebec for all their help this weekend with logistics and support.

The Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki team would like to thank the following sponsors for making their 2010 racing effort possible:
