HOUSTON (September 30, 2010) – It’s no secret that KTM Sportmotorcycle is stepping up its American pro motocross program in 2011. Shea Racing is proud to announce that its part of the expanding KTM "Ready to Race" family in the United States. Through Munn Racing of Elm Mott, Texas, the Vilation1.com/Shea Racing/National Switchgear team will compete on KTM race bikes in the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series.
This is the first time the Shea Racing supercross team, which has competed in the AMA series the past two seasons, has received factory or dealer support. The outfit will be officially known as Team Violation1.com/Shea Racing/National Switchgear powered by Munn Racing KTM.
Through Munn Racing, KTM will supply the Violation1.com/Shea Racing/National Switchgear supercross team with six "Ready to Race" KTM 250 SX-F bikes. The orange and black bikes will be piloted by pro riders in Supercross Lites at both the East and West Region rounds of the AMA Supercross series. The team riders will be announced this fall.
"KTM motorcycles is a brand that the customer base and the crew at Munn Racing are passionate about," said Chip Munn, owner of Munn Racing. "We want this same core group to be a part of the 17 round AMA Supercross series by partnering with a professional level team. We get that in Team Violation1.com/Shea Racing/National Switchgear as it’s an established pro race operation. We at Munn Racing are looking forward to the start of the 2011 season!"
Munn Racing and KTM’s support will enable Team Violation1.com/Shea Racing/National Switchgear to have a stable of the same race bikes that are proven winners in AMA Supercross. In the past, team riders were on different brands which made it difficult to order parts and share bike set-up ideas. This support, along with National Switchgear’s presenting sponsorship, elevates the team to greater significance, providing the ability to compete on the same playing field as other factory-supported teams.
"We’re very happy to welcome Munn Racing and KTM Sportmotorcycle to our team," said team owner Tim Shea. "Chip Munn has been a huge help in putting this deal together with KTM. I cannot thank him enough. We’re all very excited to start testing the new 2011 KTM 250 SX-F race bikes. With Munn Racing bikes and KTM behind us, we will be on the best equipment. That’s all any team can ask for."
Team Violation1.com/Shea Racing/National Switchgear powered by Munn Racing KTM will make its debut at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series opener on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, California. You can buy tickets now at www.supercrossonline.com. This will be a Supercross Lites West Region round. Keep posted to the team at www.sheamoto.com.
