  • Pro Taper's Dungey Leads USA MXoN Victory

Corona, CA – Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey put the final touches on his Cinderella season at the 64th Motocross of Nations event, held in Lakewood, CO. Ryan, who was also on the victorious 2009 USA team, not only led team USA to victory but also took the individual overall MX1 class win along the way.

Dungey set the tone for the weekend by posting the fastest lap time in Saturday’s MX1 free practice session, just edging out FIM World Champion Tony Cairoli. The showdown that everyone was waiting for materialized early in race one, with Dungey and Cairoli battling at the front of the MX1/MX2 field. After an intense game of cat and mouse that saw the AMA champion distance himself at times and the FIM champion make up ground with ease at others, Dungey came out victorious by just over 5 seconds.

USA trailed the German team entering the final race of the day, which was set to be the MX1/Open class face-off. With a gate full of 450’s and Open class bikes, the start was more critical than ever. Dungey and teammate Andrew Short did exactly what they needed to do and finished out the opening lap in the first two positions. Ryan made his move for the lead early in the race and put a comfortable cushion down almost immediately. At the end of the 30-minute plus two-lap race, Dungey took the win by 10 seconds over USA’s Short. The one-two finishes were enough to overcome the pre-race deficit and give USA their 21st MXoN title.

In the past two years Pro Taper EVO handlebars have led Ryan Dungey to an AMA Supercross Lites Championship, AMA Motocross Lites Championship, two MXoN Team titles-including individual MX1 overall class wins at both, an AMA Supercross Championship and an AMA Motocross Championship. Everyone at Pro Taper would like to congratulate Ryan and the entire Rockstar Makita Suzuki organization for all of their success.
