  • Duo of GEICO Powersports Riders Prepped for MXoN

DENVER – The Red Bull FIM Motocross des Nations is the most prestigious international motocross competition in the world and for the first time GEICO Powersports Honda will have two riders representing their countries in this year's event, Sept. 25-26 at Thunder Valley Motocross Park on the outskirts of Denver.

Representing Team USA will be 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Motocross 250cc champion Trey Canard, while Australia will feature 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Motocross 450cc runner-up Brett Metcalfe.

"This is our first opportunity to race in this event," said GEICO Powersports Honda team co-owner Jeff Majkrzak. "Trey really deserves this honor. He was slow to start the outdoor series, but by mid-season he was in typical Trey Canard form.

"Just as obvious as the Trey pick was, Metty for Australia became very clear as the season progressed. He just built on his success all season long."

The U.S. team is riding a five-year winning streak in the event what has been contested annually since 1947. Canard joins a U.S. team that features Supercross and Motocross 450cc champ Ryan Dungey and Red Bull Honda rider and Colorado native Andrew Short.

Canard will be riding in the MX2 division, which is the 250cc class.

"Doing the Motocross of Nations has been a dream of mine for a long time," Canard said. "To be a part of that team and to accomplish something I've dreamed about is a huge honor."

This is the fourth time Metcalfe has represented his country in the Motocross des Nations. He will be racing in the Open division and will have fellow Aussies Dean Ferris and Jay Marmont on his side.

"This race is always special to be a part of," Metcalfe said. "To represent your home country is always something special. The fact that it's in the U.S. this year is going to be unreal. Denver will give the event a good showing."

A total of 32 nations will be sending riders to Denver this weekend. Practice and qualifying will take place on Saturday with the final racing taking place on Sunday.
