Fundraiser Set for Injured Motocrosser Eric Saunders
Lakeville, Indiana (September 17, 2010) – Friends of Eric Saunders will be raising money to help the injured rider at RedBud this weekend, September 18 and 19. Saunders, who turned pro this summer, was seriously injured while practicing at his private track on August 28.
Fellow racer Matt Jones, and Aunt and Uncle Melissa and Chad Reed are leading the fundraising efforts at RedBud this weekend. Jones explains, "The Saunders family has been at Eric’s side for three weeks now. If we can raise some money to give them a little less to worry about, that would be great. Racers want to show their support, everyone wants to help."
Saunders 349 t-shirts and stickers will be available at RedBud on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, many items have been donated and will be auctioned off on Sunday during the Fall Classic event at RedBud. Items include pro racer gear, NASCAR autographed memorabilia, Leatt braces, MX products and services gift certificates and much more. There will also be raffle tickets available for larger items that will be given away at the RedBud grass race on October 17. "There’s been an outpouring of support for Eric and his family. The motocross community has been very generous with donations. In fact we’re planning a second auction at RedBud’s grass race next month on October 17. Eric is extremely humbled and appreciative of all the support," says his uncle, Chad Reed.
One bit of good news this week, Eric was able to move out of the ICU, one step closer to being able to start rehab. His family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during such a difficult time.
