Check out this gallery from press day at Pala Raceway, the newest stop on the AMA National tour.
Chris Pourcel was getting used to the track today. The top three in each class were given about 45 minutes total track time to break it in. Cox Pourcel seemed quiet but in his normal, fun mood in the press conference. Cox Trey Canard seems focused for Saturday. Cox Trey Canard leads his teammate Brett Metcalfe through the sand whoops at Pala. Cox Tyla Rattray likes Pala and rides here nearly every week. However, the track was never anything like it is now. Cox Rattray jumps over the big finish-line double in front of the grandstands at Pala Raceway. Cox Ryan Dungey seemed calm and collected in the press conference. Cox If Dungey wins this weekend, it will be a new rookie record of 10 wins in a single season in the premier class. Cox Brett Metcalfe is looking for his first win of his career this weekend. Cox Metcalfe has come very close to moto wins two weekends in a row. He's familiar with Pala's dirt. Is this the weekend? Cox Tarah Gieger Cox Gieger negotiates the 180 after the finish line. Cox Andrew Short is looking to pass Brett Metcalfe back for second in the points this weekend. Cox Ashley Fiolek Cox Ashley Fiolek needs to make up a massive amount of points on Jessica Patterson to successfully defend her title. Cox Ryan Hughes helped out with the design and build of Pala's National track. Cox Jeff Emig overjumped the finish-line jump a bunch of times in a row. OJ is not your friend... Cox The grandstands are top-shelf for this weekend's race. They run right alongside the start-straight and finish-straight. Cox From the grandstands, the finish-line double is like a big supercross finish. It turns right back onto the start straight, just like many supercross tracks. Cox The pits weren't that full yet today, but they will fill up tomorrow. Cox The top-three 450cc riders at the press conference as they prepare for their final battle of the season. Actually, it's not their final battle, as all three will be racing at the MXoN in a couple of weeks. Cox Pourcel (left), Canard (center) and Rattray (right) are all going to be very strong on Saturday. Cox There are actually pools installed in multiple places around the track. Cox The new Leatt Pro brace, made of carbon fiber, was debuted by Dungey today. He will race with it on Saturday. He says it weighs a lot less and is really comfortable. Cox
