Hunter Hewitt Injury Update
After a torn meniscus in his knee following Round 5 of the 2010 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships in Colorado, Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Hunter Hewitt was forced into surgery. With extensive rehab and a devout commitment to returning before the end of the season Hewitt began riding two weeks prior to Round 9 at Unadilla.
Still unsure as to whether or not he would be able to compete, Hewitt made the trek north to New York with the understanding that he would practice and then make an assessment on whether he would be able to ride or not. Hewitt felt reasonably comfortable on the smooth Unadilla track throughout practice and was able to set the 17th fastest qualifying time. However, his knee was obviously not yet ready to endure the beating of a full moto. The knee experienced a substantial amount of swelling following practice but Hewitt refused to sit out, deciding to take his chances in the race.
In the first moto he rounded the first corner in 8th, but was then involved in a first turn pile up that left him fighting from the back of the pack. Unfortunately, he once again got tangled with another rider after remounting from the pile up and, at that point, was too far back to make a run at the top 20. Moto two didn’t go much better. He rounded the first corner in 15th but was unable to comfortably place pressure on his weakened knee throughout the moto.
With three rounds still remaining, Hewitt and the Rockstar Energy Suzuki team have decided it best for him to sit out Round 10 of the series at Southwick in hopes of finishing the season strong at Steel City and Pala.
