Here's a large gallery of images detailing the moto happenings from Thursday at X Games 16.
Travis Pastrana returned to X Games Freestyle and dominated yet again. Cox Pastrana's tricks were big, and he had the double-backflip in the bag in case he needed it. He didn't, but he did it anyway after clinching the gold. Cox One of Pastrana's advantages was that he was using the wall-rides like no one else. Cox In this run over the quarter pipe, he transferred from one side, across the face, to the other side. He was the only guy using this wall. Cox Tricks were big yesterday. Cox After his win, Pastrana did his customary dismount, partying like it's 1999. Cox Kiwi Levi Sherwood, an X Games rookie, went big on his way to a runner-up finish. Cox Sherwood's tricks were on point. Cox Check the extension. Cox Coming in, Nate Adams was the favorite, but he couldn't match Sherwood and Pastrana. He did, however, continue his medal streak with a bronze. Cox Nate Adams shows his extension. Cox Adams was the only guy pulling 360s, but that wasn't enough. Cox Robbie Maddison was going big on one of the walls, and he looked destined for the finals, until... Cox ...his body varial, which he was pulling regularly in the prelims and in practice, went wrong. He hit the ground hard and dropped out. Cox Swiss freestyler Matt Rebaud was again in top form, and he looked like he would end his bad-luck streak at X... Cox His tricks were big, and he looked comfortable... Cox But in the finals, Rebaud didn't make it all the way around on a backflip attempt and bailed off, ending his day. He finished fourth. Cox Australian Rob Adelberg Cox More from Adelberg. He was fifth in Freestyle. Cox Adam Jones had a bit of an off day, finishing seventh despite tricks like this. Cox The stands weren't really packed at X, but it's the TV audience that really matters for this event. Cox The Moto X Racing portion featured a downhill start, going down the famous peristyles. Cox In the main event, two-time defending champ Josh Hansen got the holeshot over Chris Blose. Blose messed up the second jump and fell back right away. Cox Hansen led most of the race, but began to make mistakes in the last half. Cox Hansen's mistakes let Josh Grant (33) catch up, and then ultimately pass him. Cox Joshes Grant and Hansen head down the peristyles. Cox Grant leads over the finish-line jump with a few laps to go. Cox The track was very dusty. Here, Grant leads Hansen while Ivan Tedesco (9) fights it out with Justin Brayton (23) for third. Cox Grant celebrates his heat-race win with a heel-clicker. Cox Justin Brayton made it a JGR 1-2 sweep after working his way by Hansen. Cox Tedesco had third for a moment, passing Hansen for the spot, but Hansen fought back. Tedesco got fourth. Cox Chris Gosselaar (102) won the LCQ to go to the main. Cox For perspective, this is the type of air the racers were getting. Cox Jason Lawrence raced. Cox The Women's Moto X start went to Sara Price (4). Cox By the time the girls hit the whoops on the first lap, Ashley Fiolek (1) had the lead. Here, she leads Price (4), Jessica Patterson (2) and the rest of the field. Cox Fiolek's weak point was the whoops... Cox ...but it was everyone else's, too, as Patterson demonstrates here. Patterson ended up crashing over the massive finish-line jump, which may or may not put her lead in the WMX nationals in jeopardy. Cox Tarah Gieger finished second, over Price. Cox Fiolek grabbed her second-consecutive X Games Gold. Cox There was something new in the parking lot at X, with these flat-land street-bike freestylers performing. Cox Cox Cox Cox Cox
