Renegade Fuels and Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Finish 1-2 at Morden
Rife sweeps both motos, Maier second overall at Shadow Valley Raceway
Kamloops, B.C.(June 28, 2010) The final round of the western swing of the 2010 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals took place this weekend at Shadow Valley Raceway in Morden, Manitoba and despite persistent forecasts for rain, the team was treated to sunny weather and they capitalized on it, finishing first and second in the MX2 class.
The first MX2 moto started out well for the team, as Shawn Rife, fueled with Renegade SX4+, grabbed his third straight holeshot, leading his teammates, Spencer Knowles and Teddy Maier across the line. The Leading Edge trio rode strongly together at the front of the pack during the opening laps of the race. Rife went to work, opening up a lead and leading every lap en route to his second moto victory of the season, while his teammate Maier engaged in a battle with points leader, Tyler Medaglia, before eventually conceding the position to maintain another podium spot with a third place finish. Unfortunately for Knowles, while running fourth he miss-timed a jump and was launched off the track suffering a broken brake lever that forced him to retire from the race. He would regroup to race a strong second moto.
For the second moto, it was more of the same as Rife kept his Renegade Fuels holeshot streak alive with another great start and again he was followed across the line by his teammates, Knowles and Maier. Knowles' start was made all the more impressive by the fact he had to lineup on the far outside of the field after suffering his first moto DNF. The riders can't say enough about how well their C4MX modified, Renegade Fuels KX250F's have been working, and it shows on the track. With the three Leading Edge riders again out front, Rife put in another flawless 30 minutes to take the win and his first overall win in the Canadian series. Defending champ, Maier, put in a solid ride of his own to take second in the moto and the overall, keeping his Championship hopes alive. And Knowles recovered well from his first moto crash to match his career best moto finish with a fifth place. All in all, a successful day for the squad.
Rife had this to say about his day, "It was a great day! I felt good from the first practice on and it was my style of track. I got both holeshots and led the whole way. My teammate, Teddy, pressured me a bit in the second moto but I just tried to ride my own race." The win moved him into third in the Championship, fourteen points down on his teammate, Maier.
In MX1 action, the team's 450 rider, Brock Hoyer of Williams Lake, B.C. finished 13 – 15 for 14th overall.
Now, with the first four rounds in the books, the series takes a three week break before resuming at Courtland, Ontario's Gopher Dunes race track. With two riders in contention for the title and plenty of racing still to come the team is extremely excited for what the East will bring. With the team having grabbed every holeshot so far this season, they are confident in having the best equipment on the track and the riders are all motivated to keep their early success rolling as they finish out the 2010 season.
