Rookie Dean Wilson Breaks Through for First Career 250 Class Win

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. - Round four of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship made its annual visit to Southern Maryland on Saturday in front of thousands of energetic fans for the MotoTees.com Budds Creek National from Budds Creek Motocross Park. A full day of intense bar-to-bar action from the world's fastest riders resulted in a third consecutive 450 Class victory for Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., and a first career win for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Dean Wilson, of Scotland.

Dungey, the current 450 Class points leader, carried a four-moto win streak into Budds Creek but had to settle for third in Moto 1 behind Honda Red Bull Racing's Andrew Short, from Smithville, Texas, and Jagermeister KTM's Mike Alessi, from Victorville, Calif., after an early crash. In Moto 2, the Suzuki rider bounced back with a strong start and made the winning move on Short, who captured his second consecutive holeshot on the day, on lap four. His third straight overall victory and fifth win in the last six motos helped Dungey extend his early season points lead.

"I think its half (luck) and half (confidence)," said Dungey, who is a rookie in the premier class. "(The team) has done testing on the bike and we're learning what works and what doesn't. I needed a good start in the second moto and it took me awhile to get going. But once I got out front it was good to be in that position and choose my own lines. When you're behind someone you lose a lot of energy (chasing). These guys don't make it easy on me out there so it really forces me to be on my game."

Short used his first moto win to take the runner-up spot for the second straight week (1-5) while Monster Energy Kawasaki's Chad Reed, of Australia, rebounded from a rough weekend at round three to finish third.

Wilson, a rookie in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, became the fourth different overall winner in four races of the 250 Class. After a fourth place effort in Moto 1, he posted a strong start in Moto 2 and grabbed the lead on lap three, never looking back.

"I just tried to pace myself all day," said Wilson. "If you pushed too hard you were going to get tired (because of the heat). In the second moto, I just wanted to win and I didn't even know I won the overall. I didn't find out until after. I was just trying to get the monkey off my back (after Texas). The fans were awesome out there and the track was really tough but I had a lot of fun out there."

GEICO Powersports Honda's Justin Barcia, of Ochlocknee, Ga., finished second overall (3-2) and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Tyla Rattray, of South Africa, rounded out the podium in third (2-3) one week after claiming his first career win. Class points leader Christophe Pourcel, of France, posted a fourth place result after winning the opening moto.

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship continues next weekend from Lakewood, Colo., for round five and the Toyota Trucks Thunder Valley National from Thunder Valley Motocross Park on June 26.
