Wortham, TX – Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Tommy Hahn raced his way to an impressive Moto 1 fourth-place finish in the hotly contested 450 AMA Motocross class at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, Texas, this weekend in front of his hometown crowd. He did well in Moto 2, also, placing in the top 12 and finishing sixth overall. Hahn has started pouring on the heat toward the end of the Supercross season and looks to improve throughout the Motocross series in 2010.
Tommy got off to a quick start aboard his RM-Z450, and stayed near the front of the pack throughout the first moto. "My RM-Z rocketed out of the gate!" said Hahn. "That bike has a lot of power, and it launched me right to the front." Tommy ran as high as third in the first moto, and finished in fourth. By the second moto, all of the racers were nearly exhausted, including Tommy who had two entanglements with other riders and the overbearing heat sapping his strength throughout the day. "I was trying to conserve my energy during the first moto," said Hahn.
"Those two crashes and having to kick over the bike in the heat during the second moto really took it out of me." Tommy finished the second moto in 12th, giving him sixth overall, and putting him ninth in the race for the championship.
Hahn’s Rockstar Energy Suzuki teammates also battled the heat and the tough competition on Saturday. In the 250 class, Blake Baggett and Hunter Hewitt duked it out with the other riders. Blake ran into trouble in the first moto when what appeared to be an electrical issue caused him to drop from the top ten down to 34th. Blake recovered in the second moto, and charged ahead to finish inside the top ten, and earn 17th overall. Hunter’s performance was much more consistent, coming in 17th and 18th in his respective motos, and 19th overall.
Absent from the action at Freestone was Ryan Morais and Jake Moss. Both Ryan and Jake crashed during practice and ended up on the sidelines for the main event. Jake suffered a hard knock to the head in his crash, and it was decided that he should sit out for his own safety. Ryan came away from his crash with an injured thumb, and after visiting his doctor, it was determined that it was fractured. Ryan will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair the damage, and will be taking 4-6 weeks time away from riding to allow the fracture to heal.
The next round of the 2010 AMA Pro Motocross series will take place at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania. "I feel like these guys are going to head to High Point with a lot of momentum," said Team Manager Bill Keefe. "Tommy and Blake put in some good rides, and I expect we'll see great results from them at High Point."
