The oldest race on the Can-Am GNCC circuit provided some exciting racing this past weekend as Moose Racing rider and championship points leader, Josh Strang battled back and forth with Thor’s Charlie Mullins throughout the grueling three-hour long race.
Both riders separated themselves from the rest of the pack just passed the halfway point with Strang leading the way. Heading into a creek bottom on the final lap, the two riders took different lines and Mullins just barely squeezed by Strang for the lead. Strang stayed right on his rear fender for the final few miles and almost retook the lead when Mullins bobbled but ended up crossing the line in second place.
With his solid second place finish, Strang maintains a 37-point lead over Mullins in the championship points chase.
“I think Charlie rode a great race," said Strang. "There were parts of the track where I was faster and parts were Charlie was faster, but I think overall I did the best I could. The goal is to be number one at the end of the year, so to get a second place - I can't be bummed about that. We walked away with good championship points."
Moose Racing also had a strong showing in the Pro XC2 class as Scott Watkins and Jesse Robinson took home second and third place finishes, respectively.
In amateur racing action, Jordan Ashburn kept his perfect season in tact as he netted his fifth overall win this season and increased his points lead to 18 in the Open A division.
