TiLUBE/Brown Motorsports Supercross Round 14 Race Report

  • TiLUBE/Brown Motorsports Supercross Round 14 Race Report
RIVERSIDE, Calif. In St. Louis, Mo. this past weekend, 59000+ fans were in attendance to watch the 14th round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series.

This weekend’s event was held at the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis. This city, known for its famous Arch or “Gateway to the West”, always seems to throw the racers a curve ball. The most famous of which would be Jeff Emig’s win over the seemingly unbeatable Jeremy McGrath in 1996. That would be Emig’s only win and McGrath’s only loss that year.

Nick Wey came into this weekend hungry to get back up in the top 10. After a practice crash a few weeks earlier nearly ended his 2010 supercross campaign, Wey was feeling much better and was determined to leave St. Louis happy. Qualifying thirteenth into the night program, he knew that he would still need to find a second or two to be where he felt he belonged. Wey got a fantastic start in his heat race and went on to finish 4th, transferring directly to the evening’s main event.

Confident after a good heat race, Wey knew his Brown Motorsports built machine was working well and he set his eye on grabbing his third holeshot of the 2010 season. As the gate dropped he did just that, nailing down possibly the biggest holeshot of the season. With nineteen riders in tow he continued to lead the better portion of the first two laps. The first rider to make a move past Wey was Ryan Dungey then came Ryan Villopoto. Wey did not want to risk crashing or interfering with what could possibly be a championship defining moment, so he chose to let both riders by without much of a fight. Just past the half way mark Wey was in sixth and looking for his top finish of the season. Chad Reed and Justin Brayton both launched attacks for the sixth spot but Wey was not going to give up easy. He put up a great fight, finished strong and after a pair of very scary and unfortunate crashes from Villopoto and Ivan Tedesco, Wey crossed the in the fourth. His best finish of the season.

After the race Wey commented “Tonight was fantastic. I started out a little slow but each time I hit the track I improved. Snagging my third holeshot of the season was great and to go on to finish 4th is something I have been working for all year. It was a race my whole team can be proud of.”

Next weekend the series heads to Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash. for the 15th round of the series. Only three races remain in the championship series, so be sure to stop by the TiLUBE-Brown Motorsports truck to show your support and to have your picture taken with Nick Wey from 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm. See you there!
