Dragon Racing Fuels Dallas Supercross Recap

  • Dragon Racing Fuels Dallas Supercross Recap
After a beautiful 70 degree Friday semi parking day, the weather in Texas decided to change as quick as a close Series point chase bringing with it a forty degree drop in temperature, snow flakes and an 18 degree wind chill factor.
Changes were in the air. First the weather, now a brand new billion dollar stadium to break in Supercross style and with it, a change in the original track layout.

The change that Taylor Futrell was looking for was breaking out of the double digit finishing position at the end of the East Coast Lites Main Event. Tevin Tapia was simply looking for a result change back to his debut night in Indianapolis. Team Dragon Racing Fuels – 1-866-KTM-PART came into Dallas with results on their minds. After both riders qualified for the Heats and faced each other in Heat number one.

Lining up after the phenomenal opening ceremonies in Cowboys Stadium, Taylor and Tevin pulled through the first corner and held positions seven and eight through the first two laps. Taylor moved up a spot with a quick pass and came through the checkers with a sixth place transfer position. Tevin, with an unfortunate crash and stall, couldn’t kick the bike in time and was forced to line up for the last chance qualifier. Coming around the first corner, Tevin found himself backed up in a pile of riders as Metcalf crashed in front of them. As the riders regrouped and moved passed the crash they found themselves heading back to the starting gates while a red flag was brought out from a Lucas Crespi crash. As the gate dropped on the restart, the riders realigned themselves driving to the first turn, a place that saw crash after crash all night long. Tevin saw an immediate opening and grabbed a handful of throttle to make the move. As his Dragon Racing Fuels – 1-866-KTM-PART bike pulled through the opening, the 521 bike of Gills came into another Kawasaki and they both smacked Tevin sending him flying off of the bike. With only the top two making it through this ended Tevin’s Dallas debut.

The 49,082 fans waited with extreme excitement as the East Coast Lites riders revved the engines for the gate drop to start the evenings Main Event. The group pulled from the gates and launched towards the crash ridden first turn. Martin Davalos clipped a tuff block that sent him flying into the oncoming traffic pushing the Series points leader Christophe Pourcel into a group of riders starting a huge pile up at the first turn. Only four riders were able to pull away cleanly. After pulling his bike out of the pile, Taylor hopped on and pulled his Dragon Racing Fuels bike into the top ten. Taylor locked into focusing on the task at hand and rode beautifully through the fifteen laps. Being one of the hardest working riders in the Series, Taylor came through the finish line with his first top ten of the season and proved that his hard work is paying off. Change is here and the double digits are finally gone as Taylor Futrell finished ninth overall and pulled himself to within nine points of top ten in the Series Championship.

Taylor and Tevin look forward to the difference that Dragon Racing Fuels brings them as they take on Jacksonville this weekend. So far the weather looks awesome and the only “change” this weekend will be getting their points positions closer to number one!
