Barcia Flies High Into Dallas

  • Barcia Flies High Into Dallas
DALLAS -- Even though he's just a rookie on the GEICO Powersports Honda team, Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites East rider Justin Barcia felt like he's been knocking on the door of a victory for what seemed like forever.

The 17-year old New York native broke through last week with a wild ride to the top of the podium in Toronto. Barcia (bar-sha) said he's going into this weekend's event at Dallas Cowboys Stadium outside of Dallas with a new perspective on the world.

"Getting this win took a lot of pressure off my back," said Barcia, who has just four races in the pro ranks. "I've been kind of stressed out wanted to get this first win so bad. Now it makes me relax during the week, knowing I have the speed and capability to get the wins."

With the victory, Barcia moved up to fifth in the season points standings, just one tic behind GEICO Powersports Honda teammate Brett Metcalfe.

Metcalfe has one podium finish in four races, but has finished no worse than seventh. Metcalfe finished fifth last week in Toronto. The win was Barcia's second podium finish of the season.

"Getting a win and coming home was pretty awesome," Barcia said. "All my friends and family were there to greet me. I'm so stoked after this win.

"Training this week has just gone by like nothing. I'm out on the track having more fun than ever, because I know I can win."

This weekend's race takes place in a new venue for the Supercross series, the billion-dollar Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Barcia said getting the first win in this new arena would be one to remember.

"All of my buddies have been telling me how awesome this new stadium is," Barcia said. "I'm excited to get there. I hope it doesn't become a letdown, because what I've heard is pretty amazing. To get a win in that stadium would be pretty incredible.

"I want to try to do the same kind of thing I did last weekend: get the holeshot and check out. That would be the best way for the weekend to go."
