Anaheim, CA - The 2010 AMA Supercross season kicked off with 43,841 amped up fans under absolutely epic weather at Anaheim stadium in Southern California this past weekend. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s west coast squad comprised of #20 Broc Tickle and a newcomer to professional Supercross #48 Max Anstie took to the track in timed qualifying in great form. Turning the most heads early on was Anstie who went out and set the 2nd fastest lap time. Following in contention was Tickle who secured the 6th fastest time on the clock.
Moving into the night show, both riders were slated into the first heat race. Once the gate dropped and all the riders rounded the first turn, it was Tickle taking the holeshot followed by Anstie in 2nd. In the next turn Anstie was block passed, which dropped him into the 4th position momentarily. In the six lap race, Tickle rode strong and smart, diligently holding down the lead the entire way. Meanwhile, Anstie at the age of sixteen started to make an upward assault; setting quick times allowed him to net 2nd and make his first ever main event in the same amount of tries.
The main event got under way, and after poor starts by both teammates, when the first lap was in the books Tickle held down 13th, and Anstie sat 16th. From there both DNA Shred Stix backed riders put their heads down, making runs to climb the results tally. Three laps into the fifteen total lap race, Tickle solidly sat in the top ten in 9th, and Anstie had clawed his way to 12th. With the race closing in on the halfway mark, very clearly Broc had made gains and was pressuring for the 6th position, all the while Max worked in grand fashion by moving into the 10th spot. As the race came to a finish, Tickle picked up one more placing, putting his Yamaha in 6th. Anstie had since made up a huge gap, and went on to finish 9th in his first ever Supercross. Undeniably showing true promise, both riders are set to tackle the race in Phoenix, AZ this coming Saturday.
Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha would like to thank our great sponsors for having us fully prepared.
