Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda Return with Championship Hopes in 2010

  • Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda Return with Championship Hopes in 2010
AURORA, Ill. – The 2009 AMA Arenacross Series was a success for the Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda team. The talented trio of Ohio riders in Nathan Skaggs, Willy Browning and Zach Ames were consistent contenders for race wins in both the AMA Arenacross and AMA Arenacross Lites classes and by season’s end, Browning captured the AMA Arenacross Lites East Region title while Skaggs was a three-race winner in the thick of the championship battle until season’s end.

For 2010, the team returns unchanged and is eager to get back on the starting gate. After learning valuable lessons during the tail end of last season, Skaggs has a better understanding of what it takes to win a title and with a knack for quick starts as well as impressive speed, he will be tougher to be beat than ever. For Ames, 2009 provided a steep learning curve that took a large portion of the season to get accustomed to. Over the final portion of a season, he found his groove and made a late surge through the standings, finishing the year just outside the top 10.

"Putting things together this year was a lot harder due to the present economy,” said team manager Dallas Avery. “If it wasn't for the support from our sponsors, family and friends we would be sitting at home this year. I’m really excited (for 2010). There are some new teams as well as veteran teams coming back and the added cities on the tour will allow us to take the most exciting sport in the land to new audiences. This is going to be a good year to be an Arenacross fan."

Unfortunately, the Spinechillers/Storm Lake squad won’t be in full force for the season opener in just a few short weeks as AMA Arenacross Lites class competitor Browning is recovering from injuries sustained at the Des Moines Prequel Race in November.

“Its too bad Willy B got hurt in Des Moines,” added Avery. “He will only be 70% come the first round but by the halfway point he will be good to go and will definitely get up there and mix things up.”

Despite the short-term loss, fans will be sure to see the presence of the team in the premier AMA Arenacross class in Browning’s absence as both Skaggs and Ames chase after the coveted number one plate.

Supporting the 2010 Spinechillers effort is well-known AMA Arenacross Series backer Storm Lake Honda. Additional support comes from Williams Motorwerx, Yoshimura, Vertex Pistons, Hot Cams, Pivot Works, RG3, Ride E, Sunstar and DZG Graphics.

“The 2009 AX season was our first one with Dallas and the Spinechillers crew and our partnership with (them) was a huge success,” said Storm Lake Honda’s Jeff Schultz. “I feel that Storm Lake Honda was very well represented and it just made sense to continue to support the most exciting team in racing. We were very impressed with the riders and the results as well. We look forward to another great year.”

The 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicks-off in Grand Rapids, Mich., January 8-10 from Van Andel Arena. Tickets for all rounds of the 2010 season can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com and www.arenacross.com.
