Las Vegas, NV – When the lights went out and the headlights came on it was Husaberg Factory rider Joakim Ljunggred who pulled off the impressive night show win in front of the loud Orleans Arena crowd at the AMA EnduroCross Finale.
In his first United States EnduroCross event, Ljunggred eagerly awaited the first practice session to get his first run at the tough and technical course. “The course was very tight compared to the tracks I ride back home, but it was fun and a good challenge,” commented Ljunggred.
Ljunggred had unfortunate luck during his heat and semi races, crashing in both and getting caught behind other riders in the rock section which kept him out of qualifying position heading to the main. As a consultation, Ljunggred was given the opportunity to race the popular EnduroCross night show. A race where the stadium lights are turned out and the only light the rider is allowed to use is his Baja designs headlight system.
“I race a lot of night races in Europe and was excited for this race. I knew I could do well,” stated Ljunggred. His statement proved true as the gate dropped and he pulled the holeshot on his Husaberg FX450. Ljunggred continued to increase his lead each lap to take an easy win over the rest of the field. “It feels good to come to America and win a race. I wish it could have been the main event, but it feels pretty good to win this exhibition race as well. I hope to return next year and improve my results.”
