Unbound Energy’s Barcia & Metcalfe Both Make Top Six

  • Unbound Energy’s Barcia & Metcalfe Both Make Top Six

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Unbound Energy-backed Brett Metcalfe (GEICO Powersports/Honda) came up big in the second 250 class moto at Budds Creek, Md., this past weekend, racing to a podium 2nd place finish to keep ten points between himself and a hard-charging Jake Weimer for the third and final 250 series podium spot put on the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals tour.

Metcalfe, who crashed to 21st place in the mud in the opening moto, led eight of nine laps in the abbreviated (rain) second moto before Weimer was able to get past and take the overall win. Despite missing out on his first moto win of the season, Metcalfe’s effort was big in that he’s got a ten-point lead – 312 to 310 – over Weimer for 3rd place overall in the series.

“I definitely needed to make up for that first moto,” said Metcalfe. “And I wanted that win in the second moto, but didn’t want to throw an overall series podium away trying. We’ve got two more races to decide the final (podium) spot, beginning with Southwick (Mass.) this weekend, and I’ve done well there in the past. Should come right down to the wire at Steel City (Pa.).”

Up ahead of Metcalfe in the overall Budds Creek standings was his Unbound Energy-backed teammate, Justin Barcia. The rookie racer parlayed a hard-earned 4th-7th two-moto 250 class finish in the mud to 4th place overall on the day. Up to 267 points in the standings, Barcia’s comfortably in 6th place overall.

Next up for Unbound Energy’s Metcalfe, Wharton and Barcia on the MX National circuit is the Aug. 29th Southwick (Mass.) MX National. Check out what’s happening with the GEICO Powersports/Honda Team – fueled by Unbound Energy – at www.unboundenergy.com
