  • Jean-Sébastien Roy Named Technical Director of the Supermotocross
Montréal - The organizers of the 32nd edition of the Montréal Supermotocross, presented by Coors Lights and Parts Canada, are pleased to announce that Jean-Sébastien Roy, the great Canadian Motocross Champion and most recent winner of the fall classic, has been named Technical Director for the 2009 event. In his new role, one of JSR duty will be to design the MX and Quad courses for the Saturday October 3 extravaganza at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. Roy will be working alongside Maxime Sylvestre, a renowned Quebec expert in motocross track design.

"We could not have picked a better man for the job," said Pierre Corbeil, promoter for the event. "Jean-Sébastien understands the sport, is aware of the drivers expectations, and also knows what pleases the crowd. Asking him to map out the different courses at the Olympic Stadium is a bit like asking him to overhaul his transporter. He knows every nooks and cranny. With the background acquired while running in Canada, the United States and Europe and the experience designing many types of courses at his home track over the years, we are certain that the layout of the different tracks will be most challenging to the riders at the upcoming Montreal event."

The new Technical Director of the Montreal Supermotocross has had a long and illustrious journey over the past 20 years. Highlights of his professional career include 29 wins and five Canadian motocross championships. Roy also made it twice to the World Finals held in Europe. Jean-Sébastien Roy has competed 15 times at the Olympic Stadium, winning five grand finales, and finishing nine times on the podium. Last year, in his final salute to his Montreal fans and ultimate professional race, he won the MX1 class even though he almost did not make it, as he had to win the last-chance heat race to secure an entry for the grand finale.

"I am happy to be part of the Montreal Supermotocross team. I consider them a part of my family," said Jean-Sébastien Roy. "I have been associated with this event for a long time, an event where I have lived the best moments of my career. I hope to be part of the team for a long time to come. This is a new challenge that I am eager to accept. In the upcoming weeks, I will take great pleasure in promoting the Supermotocross, and to talk with enthusiasm about the design of the new tracks."

The Montreal Supermotocross is one of the most popular events of the year presented at the Olympic Stadium, drawing more than 50,000 fans from Quebec, Eastern Ontario, and the bordering states of the USA. More than 150 riders from Canada, the United States, and Europe will participate in this year's competition.

The best seats in the house, as well as all reserved seating, will go on sale Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Tickets can be ordered online at Admission (www.admission.com or by calling (514) 790-1245 or 1 800 361-4597). Ticket prices range from $10.00, $19.00, and $28.00 to $37.50 for the best seats in the house. Tickets will also be available at participating motorcycle dealers from all regions of Quebec. The list will be published shortly. Go online at www.montrealmotocross.com to learn more about the Montreal Supermotocross.
