  • Justin Barcia Leads Unbound Energy @ Spring Creek

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Unbound Energy-backed  Justin Barcia put together his best two-moto performance of Lucas Oil AMA MX National season thus far, parlaying a straight 3rd/3rd finish into 3rd place overall in the 250 class at Millville’s (Minn.) Spring Creek MX Park.

The seventh of 12 MX National rounds has the rookie Barcia locked solidly into 5th position in the overall standings, leading multi-race winner Jake Weimer (6th place o/a) by nine points, 191-182.

“I’m pumped we were able to put together two podiums at Millville. There’s been a number of times that we came so close, with one podium, only to have some sort of problem in the other moto,” said Barcia. “So I’m happy to be able to pull this off for the GEICO Powersports/Honda team, the guys that work so hard to make sure we’ve go the best bikes to race every weekend.”

Right on Barcia’s tail in 4th place overall at Millville was his teammate, Brett Metcalfe. With a 4th/4th overall finish, Metcalfe was able to pass up Tommy Searle for the third and final overall 250 class podium spot as Searle only scored 22 points (for 10th at Millville) to Metcalfe’s 36 points. As it stands Metcalfe leads Searle 215 to 213 for 3rd place overall.

Also making a big splash at Millville – and getting to sleep in his own bed – was newly acquired Alex Martin, son of Spring Creek MX Park owners John and Greta Martin. The rookie pro charger was running a factory race bike, the Honda CRF250R, for the first time and pulled off his first top ten moto finish – an 8th in the first moto. A 12th in the second moto for Martin gave him an 11th place overall finish, which was also his best overall on the year.

Next up for Unbound Energy’s Barcia, Metcalfe and Martin is the July 25th Washougal MX National in Washougal, Wash.
