Maximum Destruction Back Flips during the Show’s Encore
Aurora, Ill – The 10th annual Monster Jam® NGK Spark Plugs World Finals is over and the most decorated world finals driver of all time has once again claimed a championship at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. Tom Meents, driving Maximum Destruction®, won his 8th Monster Jam World Finals Championship with his win in the racing competition. The win marks his fourth racing championship, the last coming in 2002. Meents also has four freestyle world championships to his name.
“I have to thank my crew for all of their hard work to help me get back on top at the finals. The field here keeps getting harder and harder and I’m so excited to be back on top. The fans in Las Vegas have been incredible and this win is for the fans,” said Meents after claiming the win.
Meents defeated Captain’s Curse® in the racing final to claim victory after knocking off Brutus, and the U.S. Air Force Afterburner® in previous rounds. Being one of the eight fastest qualifiers from Friday night’s Double Down qualifying, Meents was given a bye in round one and then smoothly made his way through the field of competition.
In addition to his 8th world championship, Meents left the 37,000+ fans in awe as he nailed a 10,000 pound monster truck back flip during the show’s encore. The Maximum Destruction’s back flip is one of the greatest motor sports feats of all time and has only been successfully performed by Meents.
Damon Bradshaw, driving the U.S. Air Force Afterburner, captured his first ever Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Championship. With only three years of Monster Jam experience, Bradshaw is no rookie to motor sports. He’s a former supercross champion and has used his two wheel experience on a dirt bike to help him get behind the wheel of a monster truck. From being named the Rookie of the year in 2007, Bradshaw now adds Monster Jam World Finals champion to his resume.
The beginning of freestyle started with a strong run with Brutus scoring a 29. Brutus was knocked out of the freestyle hot seat by an impressive run from Bounty Hunter with a score of 32 after an incredible roll over. Bradshaw then knocked Bounty Hunter from the lead with a 36 from the biggest air of the night over the double jumps and an attempt at the triple with amazing air. Bradshaw certainly piloted the Afterburner to a new level to claim his first Monster Jam NGK Spark Plugs World Finals Freestyle Championship. After watching the icons in the sport, Grave Digger® and Maximum Destruction, receive a 19 and 23 respectively, Bradshaw solidified his victory.
Dedicating the win to his family who was here with him tonight, Bradshaw proclaimed, “I’m absolutely speechless and just so happy. This is one amazing moment for me in my motorsports career. I’ve been pushing so hard this year and really wanted to do well in Vegas and I certainly had a little luck on my side, it is Vegas!”
