Division7/Star Racing/Yamaha St. Louis Report
This past Saturday the AMA Lites East coast Supercross series headed to the St. Louis’ Edward Jones Dome for the sixth round. Nearly 56,000 fans were treated to a Travis Pastrana designed track that was abnormal, and very challenging to say the least. Division 7/ Star Racing/Yamaha got the day started fantastically with #41 Matt Lemoine standing high up in the charts in 3rd, #43 Broc Tickle held down the 10th slot, and #159 Darryn Durham clocked the 14th fastest Timed-qualifying lap.
With all three riders slated into Heat #1, it was Durham who pushed himself into 2nd early on. Lemoine trailed just behind, and Tickle was trying to rebound from a bad start. On lap two, Lemoine went for an aggressive pass into 3rd, only to hit the rider awkwardly and have to do a U-turn to get going in the correct direction. Inside of two laps until the finish, all three riders had transfer positions in hand; however Tickle suffered a crash and would have to ride the LCQ. Lemoine would bounce back to 2nd while the wild child Durham tipped over after trying to slam through another rider, though he would still place 7th. It would be a hard fought LCQ for Tickle, who started poorly and with only four laps could muster up a 3rd place, one spot short of qualifying.
The all important Main Event set out, with 15 laps ahead of them, the Division 7 boys after lap one sat like this, Lemoine 6th and Durham was 19th because of an early spill. Still wanting to be the man, Lemoine climbed up to 5th and easily closed in on the top three riders by lap four. Though Durham was having problems early on, this kid never quits and continued moving back in the right direction soon enough. On lap eight, Durham had scrapped his was to the 12th position. Upfront, Lemoine dug deep finding extra gas in his tank which enabled him to continue to hold down 5th and apply the pressure. All the while Durham was keeping the forge forward going, seeing him move into the top ten, and on lap thirteen, 9th was in his sights. With the white flag out Durham set up the pass entering a turn, successfully made it and raced to the checkers in 9th. Meanwhile, Lemoine looked to have 5th in the bag with the circulation of lap fifteen. However, a lapper caused him to abort doing an important rhythm section, allowing the championship point’s leader to overtake the Texan and demote him to a 6th for the night.
