Round 2 – Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites Series

Two rounds in to the 2009 Eastern Regional Supercross Series and the Suzuki City Lites team riders are both two-for-two in making the main events, improving their results at this past weekend’s Atlanta Supercross after less-than-desired starts.
Matt Goerke took the long way into the main event, after falling on the last lap of his Heat while in a transfer position. In the main event he came around the first lap in 14th, while his teammate Steven Clarke came around in 17th. Both riders charged to the front and ended up inside the top 10.
Matt Goerke:
“I finally rode like myself, I just got bad starts. I fell every time I was on the track, too! In the main I got almost a last-place start, but I caught up to like eighth or ninth, then fell. My speed is there; I just need to start up front with the frontrunners. I’ve been practicing a lot of starts this week, so we’ll see how it works out in Indy.”
Steven Clarke:
“Atlanta was good. Unfortunately I crashed on Friday the 13th and tweaked my knee, so I didn’t ride the entire week coming in to Atlanta. I just went into it and was going to try and make it through the night—I wasn’t going to push too hard. I rode pretty good. I got a third in my qualifier and rode pretty decent in the main. I got a terrible start and ended up 10th in the race which put me up to tenth overall in the championship, so I’m happy about that. So, overall, I think it was a good weekend. If my knee wasn’t hurt I think I would’ve definitely been in the top five. It’s still pretty sore. I just got to try and recover as fast as I can. My goal is to finish in the top ten again, closer to the top five I’m hoping for.”
The next stop for the Suzuki City team is the Indianapolis Supercross on February 28, 2009.
