  • Weimer Makes It Two Straight SX Lites Class Wins For Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki

CORONA, Calif. – Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer stepped up and put on a dominant performance in the WSX Lites class main event at San Francisco’s AT&T Park this past Saturday, holding off a wild charge from WSX overall point leader Ryan Dungey in taking his second win of the season, while giving the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team its second-straight win on in 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

With the victory, his second since Anaheim 1 (in four races), Weimer moves to within four points of the overall WSX Lites class lead, 92-88 behind Dungey.

Weimer began the weekend by making a statement in his heat race, winning that over Dungey as well. The Idaho native then carried that momentum to the main event where he pulled the holeshot and led the race from start to finish. About the only challenge for Weimer was when Dungey closed the gap and made a desperate attempt to get past Weimer in a bowl turn section of the course, and ended up going down after running up into Weimer (who had take the high line in the turn).

“He (Dungey) caught up, got right up on me and went for the pass,” explained Weimer. “I did what I had to and he went down.”

Weimer would cruise from that point – unchallenged – for the win.

The other Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki racer, Ryan Morais, would have a bit more difficult go of it – especially at the start of the main event where Morais was held up and came around the first lap outside the top ten.

“I had some difficulty at the start and that’s what did it,” said Morais, who had three straight WSX podium finishes coming into San Francisco. “My best lap times came in traffic and I was pumped I could make it back to the top five. But the competition is just too fast to make up that much time on those guys and I need to be up in the top five at the start in order to have a chance at the win at the end.”

Morais would keep his Pro Circuit-tuned Kawasaki KX250F on the gas and work his way back through traffic, catching up with the top ten by lap five (9th), then quickly working his way into the top five. But from there 5th would be all that Morais could salvage as Weimer, Dungey and Trey Canard had checked out from the rest of the field.

As it stands Morais is in 3rd place in the overall WSX points chase with 80 points, just eight points behind Weimer at the halfway point of the season.

Next up for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team is the round six of Monster Energy Supercross at Anaheim’s (Calif.) Angel Stadium, Saturday, Feb 7.
