  • Unbound Energy's Trey Canard Scores His First WSX Podium

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Unbound Energy-backed Trey Canard, the defending 2008 ESX Lites champion, pulled a powerful start on his Geico Powersports/Honda CRF250R and ran up front with the leaders for the entire contest in taking 3rd on the night. Teammate Dan Reardon also raced well, scoring his third-straight top seven finish with a 7th at AT&T Park, round five of 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

Canard looks to have rallied well after his spectacular wreck at the second round of the series (Phoenix) that put him on the sidelines for that race and the following contest in Anaheim (Calif.). The Oklahoma native finished 4th in the first Lites head race to transfer to the main, then pulled a great start from a less-than-idea gate pick and moved past Cole Seely on the second lap and into podium position – a spot he’d hold strong through the checkers, which included a good battle late with WSX overall points leader Ryan Dungey.

“It’s been a rough year after such a great season last year,” said Canard. “From a broken femur to my crash in Phoenix – it feels great to get back on track and it feels great to get back up on the box, but not right where I want to be on the box.”

With his podium effort Canard moved to within four points of the top ten overall despite only scoring in two of four races.

Reardon made the main with a 7th place finish in the second heat race. Off the main event start he was back of mid pack, but started quickly to move up (from 13th after the first lap). Reardon got into the top ten by the third lap and worked his way up to 7th, but couldn’t get past Ryan Sipes through the last portion of the contest. As it stands Reardon is in 7th place in the overall WSX standings, 14 points out of the top five.

Round six of the 2009 supercross is scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 7, at Anaheim’s (Calif.) Angel Stadium.
