AX Interview: Tyler Bright

  • AX Interview: Tyler Bright

AURORA, Ill. – As the AMA Arenacross Series heads to Greensboro, North Carolina, one rider in particular is excited about a return home. Makson Construction Suzuki’s Tyler Bright is in the midst of a transition season. The Lexington, N.C. native, who won the AMA Arenacross Lites Northern Division title last season, is making the adjustment towards running his own team this season.

While there have been some ups and downs so far this year, Bright was able to pull through with a AMA Arenacross Lites class win last weekend in Louisville, Ky. To cap off a stellar weekend, Bright also garnered strong enough finishes in the premier class to move into 10th place in the season standings.

As he heads home for this weekends race in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Coliseum, Bright is excited to put up a good result for his family and friends.

How would you describe your season so far?
It’s been alright. Really up and down. At the first few races I would have a good result on Friday and a bad result on Saturday or vice versa. This (past) weekend I put in two consistent rides and now I’m just looking to keep up that consistency for the rest of the season.

I know you have some help from Makson Construction, but how has it been running your own team?
It’s actually been a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. It’s actually been going real smooth and I got some good sponsors helping me out this year. Of course I have Makson Construction. Those guys are really helping me out and footing the bill for everything. It’s all going really smooth. I got a good training program, help with my suspension, and Yoshimura support. Everything is going really well.

You earned a win last weekend in the Lites class. What made you go out and ride with that competition?
Well personally I like racing in both classes, but I was in the top-10 (in AMA Arenacross class points) the last two weekends so I haven’t been able to. But in Louisville, I was able to race both classes again so I used it as a warm-up for the big class.

Did it feel good to get a win and get your confidence back up?
Oh yeah. Absolutely. It felt really good to get a win again and I would really like to get one in the big bike class this year.

This weekend you go back to North Carolina. As a home race for you, how do you feel coming into it?
I really pumped. I got a lot of family and friends coming out to watch me and I look forward to putting on a good show for them. I’m actually in 10th (in points) now so I’ll only be racing one class but I hope to hop in there this weekend and win a race for (my supporters).

What are you looking to accomplish for the remainder of this season?
Right now my future goal is to finish the AMA Arenacross Series consistently in the top 10 through the final rounds and into (Highland Heights). Following the AMA Arenacross Series I’m going to move over to AMA Supercross and compete on a 450cc (bike). There I just want to try and make the main events.

Who will be helping you out for AMA Supercross?
Makson Construction is going to continue to help me out, but I will be riding under the Wonder Warthog tent. They will take my bikes to the races. I’ll still be riding a Suzuki.
