AMA Arenacross Heads to Greensboro
AURORA, Ill. – With a three-race winning streak in tow, Mahindra Tractors/Tuf Honda’s Jeff Gibson leads the AMA Arenacross Series into the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C., January 31-February 1st.
The series points leader is in the midst of a stellar season, finishing on the podium in each race while also racking up four victories, including a sweep in Louisville, Ky. this past weekend. Gibson holds a 47-point lead over second place Nathan Skaggs, of Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda, making him the heavy favorite for the 2009 championship. Super Value tickets to watch Gibson’s historic run cost just $10.
Last weekend at Louisville’s Broadbent Arena, Gibson put on an impressive display for the thousands in attendance en route to convincing wins on both Friday and Saturday night. In the AMA Arenacross Lites class, Codi Adams and Tyler Bright took the top step of the podium in a Multi-Divisional round.
Beginning in Greensboro, the series will complete a month of one-night weekends. Despite the unique twist and his comfortable points lead, Gibson expectations are still realistic.
“I try not to think about the championship,” he stated. “I take it one race at a time because anything can still happen.”
Last year in Greensboro, the AMA Arenacross Series made a successful debut at the Coliseum as Teddy Maier held off eventual champion Chad Johnson for the exciting win. In the talented AMA Arenacross Lites class, Kurt McCabe stood atop the podium after outlasting eventual Northern Division Champion Shane Sewell.
This weekend’s AMA Arenacross Lites class race will serve as round two of the Eastern Division championship.
