Gray Davenport Garners Lites Class Victory
AURORA, Ill. – After a night of the action-packed racing that characterizes the AMA Arenacross Series on Friday, the thousands in attendance at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Mary., were treated to more of the same as Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Nathan Skaggs, of Bainbridge, Ohio, won his second race of the young season and tightened the points race. In the AMA Arenacross Lites class, Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Gray Davenport, of Lehi, Utah, raced to the win.
Skaggs capitalized on a stellar start, grabbing the holeshot and never looking back. Behind him however, several of the series’ top competitors found trouble, including defending series champion Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., Michael Willard, of Thornville, Ohio, and Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas.
“I’m feeling good, Spinechillers has supported me a lot,” exclaimed Skaggs. “The first five laps were all the same. I kept an eye on who was behind me and kept running my pace. I feel like I can go faster but I don’t want to push it. I would like to thank my sponsors, my mechanic, and all this Baltimore Crowd.”
Triple Effect Kawasaki’s Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville, Ohio, and series points leader, Tuf Honda’s Jeff Gibson, of Thornville, Ohio, kept Skaggs honest by keeping the pressure on. Sellards rebounded from a rough Friday night and brought home a runner-up finish with Gibson following in third. Gibson has finished on the podium in each of the four races this season.
Davenport brought home an impressive AMA Arenacross Lites class win, holding off a strong effort from Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Willy Browning, of Rushville, Ohio. Orient Express Suzuki’s Dave Ginolfi, of Lake Hopatcong, N.J., rounded out the podium.
Gibson holds an 18-point lead over Skaggs in the AMA Arenacross class standings while Browning leads the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Division standings by seven points over Ginolfi.
The AMA Arenacross Series continues next weekend from the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio January 17-18.
