Burkhart Posts Fastest Lap Times at Infineon Raceway

Advance, NC - Mark Burkhart (Graves Motorsport Yamaha), 2008 Moto X World Champion, 2007 X-Games Supermoto Gold winner, and 2007 AMA Supermoto Champion finished the season with two unfortunate performances this past weekend. Burkhart finished in eighth place overall on Saturday when a mechanical failure on the last lap dropped him out of the lead. On Sunday it would be a last lap crash in the same spot that caused Burkhart to finish tenth for the day. Tough results for the guy who set the fastest lap times on both days - but that's racing.
Burkhart had set the fastest lap time on Saturday with a 1:06.611 and on Sunday his best lap time was a 1:03.879. He placed second in his Heat Race on Saturday and won his Heat Race on Sunday.
Burkhart finishes the year in fourth place overall in the XTRM/AMA Supermoto Championship. To win the championship he needed top finishes.
"There was something about the last lap and a certain spot on the track that cursed me this weekend. I felt great coming into the weekend, setting the fastest times both days. I felt like I would win the championship again, but it wasn't meant to be. I wish that the results were different especially given all the work and effort that the team and my sponsors put forth this year. I want to thank Keith McCarty and Graves Yamaha, as well as Monster Energy Drink, Alpinestars, Arai, Scott, Dunlop and Sidi for all their support, commented Burkhart.
"I also want to congratulate Troy Herfoss on his winning the Championship," added Burkhart.
