  • Reed Wins 5th Straight in Wollongong
World/AMA Supercross Champion Chad Reed has thrilled the 10,000 strong crowd at Round 5 of Super X at Wollongong’s WIN Stadium tonight, totally dominating the field every time he was on-track.

The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider won his heat race by over 22 seconds, recorded a top ten shoot time that was over a second quicker than any other competitor, then went on to lap all except second placed rider Jay Marmont in the 20 lap Super X final. What made the feat even more amazing was that he rode the last nine laps of the final minus his goggles, maintaining consistency and pace while continuing to lap riders behind him.

Reed, who took the holeshot in each of his races tonight said he had paid particular attention to his starts in training, as it was the one area that had been his weakness this series. “My starts have been less than stellar, so I worked pretty hard on those in training this week and they were spot on tonight,” Reed said. “I feel good and I feel strong. It was great to get back to a 20-lap final, it gives me a pretty good indication of where I am at in terms of the AMA season. “While I am having a ball and really enjoying racing in front of Australian crowds again, I have to stay focused on preparing for '09 and my World title defense,” Reed acknowledged.

Reed once again comes away with maximum points and now sits its 19 points clear of Marmont with just two rounds remaining.

The penultimate round of Super X will be held at Townsville’s Dairy Farmers Stadium on Saturday 22 November where Reed will go head-to-head with the 'King of Supercross' Jeremy McGrath.
