HUNTERSVILLE, NC – In just his first professional race with Joe Gibbs Racing, Motocross (titled as The SPIKE Hardcore Energy/Toyota/Yamaha Team), Josh Grant was on the podium for the main event the first night of the 26th annual Bercy Supercross held Nov. 7-9 in the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France. Grant’s performance marked the first supercross podium finish for the team, still in its debut year. Grant briefly led the field during the second night’s main event and then suffered a crash while in second place forcing him to remount his Y450F and charge back to seventh. On the third and final night’s main event, Grant crashed on the tight course and was forced to watch the rest of the race from the sidelines as his bike was too damaged to continue. Grant earned an overall standing of seventh for the international event.
SPIKE Hardcore Energy/Yamaha/Toyota test rider, Eric Sorby, who accompanied Grant to his native France, finished eighth, ninth, and 13th for 10th overall.
The next stop on the team’s international tour will be La Voie de Moens, Geneva for the International Supercross Geneva on Dec. 5-6. The race will be held at the Geneva Palexpo, and marks the 23rd running of the annual event. Cody Cooper, the team’s third rider, will join Grant and Sorby for what will be his first race with the SPIKE Hardcore Energy/Toyota/Yamaha Team.
“We felt the Bercy event would be a great way to see how Grant was adapting to the 450, as well as gauge our current settings, which we are continuously evaluating and improving at this point,” said team owner, Coy Gibbs. “I am excited with Grant’s debut podium performance and am looking forward to the next race in Geneva.”
The team is sponsored by SPIKE Hardcore Energy, Toyota, Yamaha, Boost Mobile, FMF Racing, Renthal, Etnies, N-Style, Snickers, Troy Lee Designs, Renton Coil Springs, Hinson Clutch Components, Bridgestone, Filtron Performance Filters, Oakley, Cycra, and Yamalube.
